How to Buy Japanese Baseball Tickets Online: A Guide for First-Time Visitors

If you’re planning a trip to Japan and enjoy baseball, attending a Japanese professional baseball game should absolutely be on your list of things to do.

But figuring out how to buy Japanese baseball tickets from outside Japan isn’t always straightforward.

When I started researching tickets for our first trip to Tokyo, I found plenty of information about how amazing Japanese baseball games are. What wasn’t always as clear was how to actually purchase tickets, when they went on sale, and whether I could buy them online before arriving in Japan.

Fortunately, buying tickets turned out to be easier than I expected.

During our family trip to Japan in July 2026, we attended a Tokyo Yakult Swallows game at Meiji Jingu Stadium. I purchased our tickets online before leaving the United States, and we ended up with some excellent seats.

In this guide, I’ll explain how to buy Japanese baseball tickets, where to purchase them, how far in advance you should book, and a few things worth knowing before choosing your seats.

I’ve also made a video walking through the ticket-buying process, so you can see exactly how to navigate the website.

Can Tourists Buy Japanese Baseball Tickets Online?

Yes. You can purchase tickets for Japanese professional baseball games online, even if you’re visiting from another country.

You don’t need to be a Japanese resident to attend a game, and some teams offer English-language ticket purchasing options.

However, buying tickets in Japan works a little differently than purchasing tickets for Major League Baseball in the United States.

Japan’s professional baseball league is called Nippon Professional Baseball, or NPB.

There are 12 teams divided between two leagues: the Central League and the Pacific League.

Unlike MLB, where most fans can purchase tickets through a fairly consistent system, Japanese baseball teams have their own ticket websites, purchasing procedures, and sales schedules.

Some are easier for international visitors to navigate than others.

For our trip, we decided to attend a Tokyo Yakult Swallows game at Meiji Jingu Stadium, which is conveniently located in central Tokyo.

If you’re visiting Tokyo, the Swallows are a great option. You can also attend a Yomiuri Giants game at the Tokyo Dome.

You can find the complete list of teams on the official Nippon Professional Baseball website.

Where to Buy Japanese Baseball Tickets

My first recommendation is to start with the team’s official website.

While there are third-party services that sell tickets to Japanese baseball games, purchasing directly from the team is worth trying first. The third-party services often charge much more for tickets than the actual teams do.

You’ll be able to see the available games, ticket categories, seating arrangements, and current prices.

For the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, there are two official online options worth knowing about.

Tokyo Yakult Swallows English Ticket Website

The Swallows offer an English-language ticket purchasing system that makes things easier for international visitors.

Buy Tokyo Yakult Swallows Tickets – Official English Website

The process is relatively simple. You select the game you want to attend, choose your available seats, complete payment, and receive an electronic ticket.

One important detail is that the English ticket system currently only accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay for payment.

You can access your purchased tickets electronically and display them when entering the stadium. You don’t need to visit a convenience store to have them printed.

Tokyo Yakult Swallows Japanese Ticket Website

The team also has a Japanese-language ticket website called Swa-Ticket.

Tokyo Yakult Swallows Official Ticket Website

This website offers detailed seating selections and access to the team’s primary ticket inventory.

You’ll generally need to register for a Swallows ID account, which is free, or have a paid Swallows CREW membership.

The Japanese website has more features, including seat selection and views from different seating areas.

If you’re comfortable using your browser’s translation feature, it’s worth exploring this option as well. Yakult Swallows Ticket

How to Buy Tokyo Yakult Swallows Tickets: Step by Step

Here’s the general process for purchasing tickets online.

It’s also what I demonstrate in my YouTube video, where I recorded the ticket-selection and checkout process.

Step 1: Find the Game You Want to Attend

The first thing you’ll need to do is find a game that works with your travel dates.

Visit the official Swallows website and navigate to the schedule.

You’ll see the team’s upcoming games, opponents, dates, and start times.

Pay attention to whether the game is being played at Meiji Jingu Stadium.

Just like MLB teams, Japanese baseball teams play both home and away games. You don’t want to accidentally purchase tickets for a game taking place in another city.

For our trip, we attended the July 21, 2026 game against the Chunichi Dragons.

Once you’ve found a home game that fits your schedule, you can move on to selecting tickets.

Step 2: Choose Your Seating Section

This is where you’ll want to spend a little time looking at the stadium’s seating chart.

Meiji Jingu Stadium offers several different seating options, including seats behind home plate, along the first- and third-base lines, and in the outfield.

Some areas are more expensive than others, and certain sections are specifically designated for fans of the home or visiting team.

For our game, we chose Reserved Seat A on the first-base side.

We ended up in row 6 (which was actually the first row), which gave us a fantastic view of the action.

One of the things I wanted was to be close enough to really experience the atmosphere without spending a fortune on tickets.

And I’m glad we chose the seats we did.

One important thing to know: Some seating sections are reserved for fans cheering for a particular team.

At Meiji Jingu Stadium, designated Swallows cheering sections prohibit supporting the opposing team or wearing its merchandise.

If you don’t have a particular team you’re rooting for, I’d recommend looking at the infield seating options and checking the rules for the specific section before purchasing. Yakult Swallows Ticket

Step 3: Select Your Seats

Once you’ve chosen a seating section, the next step is selecting your available seats.

Depending on the purchasing website, you may be able to select specific seats or choose from an available seating category.

Because we were traveling as a family of four, getting seats together was important.

If you’re buying tickets for multiple people, especially during a popular game, I wouldn’t wait until the last minute.

You’ll generally have a better selection when tickets first become available.

Also, make sure to review the seating details before moving forward.

You don’t want to complete your purchase only to realize you’ve selected the wrong section or seats that aren’t together.

Step 4: Complete Your Purchase

Once you’ve selected your tickets, you’ll proceed to checkout.

The available payment methods depend on which ticket website you’re using.

As mentioned earlier, the official English-language Swallows ticket portal currently accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay.

The Japanese Swa-Ticket website offers other payment and ticket delivery options.

Be sure to check which system you’re using before starting the purchase.

After completing payment, you should receive confirmation of your order.

Keep that confirmation somewhere you can easily access during your trip.

Step 5: Save Your Tickets

Once you’ve purchased your tickets, make sure you understand how to access them on game day.

For electronic tickets, I recommend saving the ticket information somewhere convenient on your phone. We just saved them to the wallet on our iPhone.

You don’t want to be standing outside the stadium trying to locate an email or log into an unfamiliar website.

I would also save your purchase confirmation as a backup.

Before leaving for the game, check that your tickets are accessible and that you know which entrance you’re supposed to use.

Once you’ve taken care of that, you’re ready for some Japanese baseball.

How Far in Advance Should You Buy Japanese Baseball Tickets?

This was one of the biggest questions I had before our trip.

With MLB games, you can often purchase tickets at the beginning of the season for any one of the 162 games.

Japanese baseball tickets don’t necessarily work that way.

Many teams release tickets in stages, and the general public may not be able to purchase tickets until relatively close to the game date.

The Swallows, for example, published specific ticket release dates throughout the 2026 season.

Tickets for games played between July 20 and August 16, 2026, went on sale to the general public on June 20, 2026.

That meant tickets for our July 21 game became available only about a month before the game.

The team also has membership programs that can provide earlier purchasing opportunities.

Ticket release schedules change by team and season, so it’s important to check the current schedule rather than assuming tickets will be available as soon as you book your flights.

My Recommendation for Buying Tickets

If attending a baseball game is something you really want to do during your Japan trip, I’d recommend checking the schedule as soon as it’s released.

Once you identify the game you want to attend, find out when tickets go on sale.

Then make a reminder to purchase them when they become available. And make sure that reminder is for your local time zone and Japan’s.

This is especially important if you’re traveling with a family and need several seats together.

While you might be able to purchase tickets closer to game day, I wouldn’t count on getting the seats you want.

Popular matchups, weekends, holidays, and special promotional games may sell out more quickly.

How Much Do Japanese Baseball Tickets Cost?

Ticket prices vary depending on the team, stadium, seating section, and opponent.

For the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, there are options at different price points, from more affordable outfield seats to premium seating near the field.

The team uses dynamic pricing, meaning ticket prices can change based on demand and other factors.

For the 2026 season, some standard outfield tickets had initial prices under ¥3,000, while many premium infield seats started above ¥5,000.

These aren’t fixed prices, so you’ll want to check the actual cost when purchasing.

Compared with attending many major sporting events in the United States, I think Japanese baseball can be a pretty reasonable experience.

And considering the atmosphere, the entertainment, and the overall experience, it’s something I’d gladly pay to do again.

Can You Buy Japanese Baseball Tickets at the Stadium?

Yes, some teams offer tickets at the stadium box office on game days.

However, I wouldn’t recommend relying on that option if attending a game is a priority during your trip.

For the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, tickets can be purchased at designated stadium ticket windows when inventory is available.

But if tickets sell out in advance, there won’t be any additional tickets available at the box office.

The Swallows specifically state that game-day window sales aren’t offered when advance tickets are sold out.

If you’re traveling all the way to Japan and have a particular game in mind, I’d much rather have the tickets purchased before arriving.

It’s one less thing to worry about.

Which Seats Are Best for a Japanese Baseball Game?

This really depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for.

One of the biggest differences between Japanese baseball and MLB is the atmosphere created by the fans.

Japanese baseball fans are incredibly organized when it comes to cheering.

Each team has its own songs, chants, and traditions, and some sections of the stadium are much more involved than others.

Infield Seats

If you want a good view of the game while still experiencing the atmosphere, I’d recommend looking at the infield seats.

That’s what we did.

Our seats on the first-base side gave us a great view, and we could still hear and participate in the cheering throughout the stadium.

For families visiting Japan for the first time, I think this is a great option.

Outfield Cheering Sections

If you really want to experience the full intensity of Japanese baseball cheering, the outfield sections are worth considering.

This is where you’ll often find some of the most enthusiastic fans.

There are organized chants, songs, drums, and coordinated cheering that continues throughout much of the game.

Just remember that these areas may have specific rules about which team you’re allowed to support.

If you’re primarily interested in watching the game without constantly participating in the cheering, another seating section might be a better fit.

Getting to Meiji Jingu Stadium

Another reason I recommend attending a Tokyo Yakult Swallows game is the stadium’s location.

Meiji Jingu Stadium is relatively easy to reach using Tokyo’s public transportation system.

The closest subway station is Gaiemmae Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, which is approximately a five-minute walk from the stadium.

You can also reach the stadium from several other nearby stations.

We used Tokyo’s train system throughout our trip, and Google Maps made getting around pretty easy.

Just enter Meiji Jingu Stadium as your destination and follow the directions.

I’d recommend arriving early enough to walk around the stadium before the game.

We spent some time exploring the area outside, checking out the atmosphere, and getting a feel for everything before heading to our seats.

For me, that’s part of the experience.

Is Attending a Japanese Baseball Game Worth It?

Absolutely.

Even if you’re not a huge baseball fan, I think attending a game in Japan is worth considering.

I’ve been to plenty of baseball games in the United States, and the atmosphere at our Swallows game was unlike anything I’d experienced at an MLB stadium.

The fans were constantly cheering, singing, and participating in organized chants.

And then there were the umbrellas.

One of the Swallows’ traditions involves fans opening and waving small umbrellas while singing the team’s cheering song.

Seeing thousands of people doing it together was pretty incredible.

We also got to experience fireworks during the middle of the game, which made the evening even more memorable.

The stadium food was really good and a completely different experience from what we’re used to at baseball games in the United States. From the variety of food options to the way everything was served, it was another part of the experience that made attending a game in Japan so memorable.

The real attraction was the atmosphere.

Our kids loved it, and it ended up being one of the experiences from our Tokyo trip that I was happiest we included.

Final Thoughts: Buying Japanese Baseball Tickets Is Easier Than You Think

Before our trip, I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to purchase Japanese baseball tickets.

Between the different ticket websites, release dates, and seating options, it initially seemed more complicated than buying tickets to an MLB game.

My biggest recommendation is to plan ahead.

Find the game you want to attend, check when tickets go on sale, and purchase them early enough to get the seating you want.

And if you’re visiting Tokyo, I highly recommend considering a Tokyo Yakult Swallows game at Meiji Jingu Stadium.

It ended up being one of our favorite experiences in Japan.
